Steam has revealed its Best of 2020 lists, and while it doesn't rank the top games, they do give a glimpse as to what games earned the most gross revenue and had the most players.
Steam's Best of 2020 lists include Top Sellers, New Releases, Most Played, Early Access Grads, Best of VR, and Controller Games and games like Cyberpunk 2077, Grand Theft Auto V, Destiny 2, Counter-Strike, and DOTA 2 appear in multiple categories.
The Top Sellers category features Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze tiers, but Steam doesn't detail what amount of gross revenue is needed to qualify for a certain level. The Platinum Top Sellers, in alphabetical order, are as follows;
The Most Played category is measured by highest peak concurrent players and the top tier includes games that reached over 200,000 peak players. The games that reached that milestone are as follows;

•Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
•Cyberpunk 2077
•Destiny 2
•DOTA 2
- Roblox (Total registered players: 230 million) Released in 2006, Roblox is an online game creation platform that gives users the ability to create games and play games made by other users.
- Fortnite (Total registered players: 350 million) Originally, Fortnite was only intended to be a co-op survival tower defense game where you fight off hordes of zombies and creatures using weapons, traps and fortifications; this game mode would later be called Save the World.
- Minecraft (Total registered players: 240 million) Minecraft is a sandbox exploration game set in an almost infinite, blocky 3D world. Extract raw resources to craft tools and items in order to build various structures and machinery.
- League of Legends (Total registered players: 180 million) Released in 2009, League of Legends is an online battle arena game inspired by the DotA mod of Warcraft lll.
- Fortnite Battle Royale – 8.3 million. Surely one of the biggest comeback stories in video gaming history, Fortnite’s original PvE experience was met with a middling reception and enjoyed only a modest community of players.
- CrossFire – 8,000,000 + When thinking of popular FPS titles, Call of Duty, Destiny, and Halo probably spring to mind. You’re certainly unlikely to think of CrossFire, an astronomically popular South Korean shooter that has slowly gained traction on a global scale.
- League of Legends – 8,000,000. Taking the MOBA gameplay loop established by titles like the original DOTA, League of Legends streamlined the experience into a faster and more accessible package.
- PUBG: Battlegrounds – 3,257,248+ Still the ultimate battle royale experience for many, PUBG basically took over the competitive multiplayer scene in 2017, eclipsing even some of the most established games for peak concurrent players.
