It’s great when a mod updates to 1.20.1 and then also supports 1.20.2 and 1.20.4, but if a mod skips 1.20.1 and goes directly to 1.20.4, then it loses compatibility with several mods that won’t update until the next major version.
You will receive proper list of incompatible mods in your client logs. And, once you have actually compatible list of mods, the big red angry X turns into the happy green Compatibility. The same fix is being used in my modpack Starpack Titan with 600+ mods and it gives perfectly accurate checks.
