Oct 25, 2021 · Minecraft: Java Edition is only available on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Minecraft: Bedrock Edition is available on Windows 10 and 11, Xbox One, Xbox Series S and X, PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, and Windows Mobile.
- Mods. While both versions of Minecraft support mods—Bedrock calls them addons and has recently expanded them—Java has far more options. Importantly, Minecraft Java mods tend to be free, while Bedrock add-ons can be either free or paid downloads in the Minecraft Marketplace.
- Cost. Java Edition and Bedrock Edition are sold together nowadays for a set price of $29.99. Unlike the old days, you’ll get both versions of Minecraft in one neat package and a unified launcher, so you can swap between them at will.

I’d say if you are about to play your first game of Minecraft and you are on Windows 10, then it makes sense to play with the Bedrock build. It’s a no-brainer if you already have an RTX card or thinking about upgrading in the near future.
