Jul 3, 2015 · With the launcher's new profile feature, it is now possible to use, and install multiple versions of Minecraft on the machine. To do so, Click on "New Profile" or "Edit Profile. Select the Minecraft version desired from the "use version" dropdown. Click "Save Profile" and run the game.

In the Minecraft Launcher (Java), you can switch between game versions. I eventually made the change from the latest version to 12.2 so I could use mods. Due to Forge coming out for 1.14, as well as just wanting to use multiplayer, I'm probably going to start occasionally switching between versions 1.12 & 1.14/Latest.
