Sep 8, 2015 · Thanks to a new launcher, Minecraft no longer requires you to install Java, so you can finally remove it. The short version is that Minecraft is now bundling a standalone version of Java into their installation and it doesn't have the security problems and annoyances that regular Java does.

Sorry, that was louder than I intended. Starting June 7, all players that have either Java Edition or Bedrock Edition will receive the edition they do not currently own for free, right in the Minecraft Launcher. So if you own Java, you’ll get Bedrock – and vice versa.
