As for the version you wanna play, it depends, if you're looking for the version you see online most of the time it is minecraft Java edition, or Bedrock edition. I would recommend java as it is the original and is usually more polished, bedrock is meant more for phones and consoles

I’d say if you are about to play your first game of Minecraft and you are on Windows 10, then it makes sense to play with the Bedrock build.
