Sixteen Fathoms Deep (also written as 16 Fathoms Deep) is a 1948 American adventure film directed by Irving Allen and starring Lloyd Bridges, Lon Chaney Jr. and Arthur Lake. It was a remake of the 1934 film of the same title in which Chaney had also starred.

Mar 12, 2019 · The film takes place in Tarpon Springs Fl, where I live fifteen minutes from. The town has an older Greek background from the divers who migrated from Greece to sponge dive. There is a museum that shows this film and talks more about the overall history.
In post-WW2 Florida, a former Navy diver is hired by Greek-American sponge divers who are at the mercy of a crooked sponge-exchange owner. Examines the dangerous business of snaring sponges on the ocean's floor that are sold via an auction exchange.
A former Navy diver (Lloyd Bridges) joins a Florida sponge-boat crew facing sharks and a crooked rival (Lon Chaney Jr.).
