Jan 1, 2021 · You don't need to own an Xbox to have an Xbox account. Xbox is a gaming platform on multiple devices. Saying that, you don't need an Xbox account to play multiplayer on the Java edition of Minecraft. Only the Bedrock edition requires this. But with the Java edition, multiplayer is limited to Minecraft servers, local LAN and Realms.

The same goes for Minecraft. You can actually play on local play, but your friend needs to be near you (around 5-15 feet away). You will also need to have a Microsoft account.

That is incorrect. how is it incorrect, i play minecraft from my pc with my kids on their xbox's via lan, no gold needed. because the PC cannot host the game! Thats how i played with my son, but now you need a mebership to even play lan.
