The rest of England, as well as Wales and Scotland, has a mix of sunny spells and heavy showers. Northern Ireland should be mostly dry. Tuesday: Scattered showers develop but many places remain dry. Week 2: 13/05 to 19/05

After a fine start to the week a transition to more unsettled weather takes place. That leads to the risk of showers or thunderstorms and longer spells of rain returning. Initially the wettest conditions will probably be in the south, but most of the UK could see wet spells by the end of the week. After a warm start temperatures dip. Forecast confidence is low.

    Week 1

Low pressure brings a mixed bank holiday Monday. Thereafter, high pressure becomes the dominant feature of the weather. Computer models suggest it will bring a settled period which should last until the end of the week. The exception is the north west where more of an Atlantic influence remains. The chart below is from the GFS model. It shows pressure and precipitation at 15:00, Thursday 9th May.

    Week 2

High pressure is likely to be centred close to the UK at the start of the week. A change is expected to begin taking place quite early on, with pressure falling from the south and west. It leads to increasingly unsettled weather. The chart below shows the GEFS forecast mean surface level pressure on Wednesday 15th May.
