This section of our guide covers the Hunts you can undertake via the Clan Primer, which you find near the very beginning of the game. Hunts are optional, but highly recommended for completionists, especially if you’d like to get as much Gil and other treasure as humanly possible for your troubles. Trust us - it’s worth doing each one of these below!

Please note that we only cover the first 25 hunts in the game (22 “regular” hunts and 3 “Montblanc” hunts). This is simply because at that point, our instructions are going to start to become highly redundant. Generally speaking, there are certain steps to every hunt: read about the hunt on the board, agree to speak with the petitioner, find the petitioner, speak with him or her, then go out and find the mark. This accounts for literally 90% of every hunt and almost all of the legwork therein. It’s fighting the foe that can be different.

But even then, there are again certain things you’ll want to do. If the foe has something like Protect, Shell, or Haste on it, then by all means, Dispel before you attack. You’ll generally want to keep the attacks in the physical nature, but magicks sometimes work as well. And, of course, you’ll want to keep a constant eye out on your party’s health. Like boss characters, too, marks have the tendency to get stronger both offensively and defensively at the end of a battle.

The hunts after the 25 we cover are in no way obscure or hard to find... they are on the petitioners’ board in various towns and pubs. They are just harder than the ones listed here... but in the same style, nonetheless. Good luck!

    •Commissioned by: Tomaj (Rabanastre)

    •Enemy: Rogue Tomato

    •Bounty: 300 Gil, Potion (x2), Teleport Stone.

The first hunt of the game is mandatory. You can find information on it within the walkthrough located in this very guide. To list all of the information here would simply be redundant.

    •Commissioned by: Gatsly (Rabanastre)

    •Enemy: Thextera (Mutant Wolf)

•Bounty: 500 Gil, Headguard, Teleport Stone.

This hunt is easy enough to find. When you go back to end the Rogue Tomato bounty above, you can simply go back to the board in The Sandsea in Rabanastre and find the advertisement for this mark. Thankfully, the man who commissioned it, though a shop owner in a different part of town, is already in The Sandsea and hence you won't have to go far to find him. He near the door, sprawled out on the floor. He'll explain his situation to you and describe exactly what needs to be done. Accept his challenge and the hunt will begin.

Thextera is located in the Dalmasca Westersand, which is in the opposite area of where we fought the Rogue Tomato. To get there from The Sandsea, exit and head south, all the way until you can access the center area of town in between Eastgate and Westgate. While Eastgate was your ultimate target last time around, this time you want to head to Westgate. Once there, you can talk to everyone you find and even find a Chocobo stable (though we highly recommend against hiring one). What we do recommend is saving your game at the save crystal you find there before heading into the Dalmasca Westersand.

The Dalmasca Westersand is actually a rather expansive, multi-screen area that we're not going to explore in its entirety right now (at least, this remains true if you're following our in-guide walkthrough and working off of our sidequest references). If not, you may or may not come to this particular hunt while you're strong enough to do some serious exploration. Unfortunately, we aren't. You'll only find Wolves here - in great quantities - so work off of them and make sure you're at least level 4 with a Broadsword equipped. When you are, it's time to seek out the Thextera.

    •Commissioned by: Dantro (Dalmasca Estersand)

    •Enemy: Flowering Cactoid

    •Bounty: 500 Gil, Potion (x10).

Head to The Sandsea after retrieving the Crescent Stone and examine the board. This should be the third offer you get (after the Rogue Tomato and Thextera). Unfortunately, you're going to have to travel to get to where the guy who commissioned this hunt is located, which is out in the Dalmasca Estersand. You should be able to navigate through that desert (by leaving Rabanastre from the east), and you should be able to do it pretty easily. Just be weary of the dinosaur-looking enemies named Wild Saurians. They have 6,000 HP and will utterly destroy you at this point, but are passive. So don't go instigating anything! Otherwise, head to the outpost tucked in the corner of the initial part of the Dalmasca Estersand. You'll find Dantro there. Talk to him and the quest will begin.

A Cactoid mocking Dantro and attacking his friends might sound funny, but it's actually serious business (well... kinda). You'll need to leave the outpost from the other entrance/exit. It's the only way you can access the Yardang Labyrinth, which is where the Flowering Cactoid runs amok. Look around for the foe, killing everything else you come across (simply because you'll be using a lot of space to fight this foe and you'll undoubtedly run into enemies you left behind, making things harder for you).

A few keys to remember. First of all, go well-equipped with both Potions and Eye Drops. Because the foe can blind you, your hit rate will go way down if you're blinded with no recourse. And since your hit rate will hover around 25% as it is, being blind will make things near-impossible. Also, try to go with Cure purchased and well-used - you'll need it. If the foe runs away, be sure to give pursuit because it has a couple of Potions it can and will use to heal itself. Other than that, head back to Dantro once the foe is slain to collect the bounty. And if you're interested in doing even more, consider hitting up the Side Quest section of this guide to learn what you can do for Dantro.

    •Commissioned by: Milha (Rabanastre)

    •Enemy: Wraith

    •Bounty: 500 Gil, Ether, Gauntlets.

The starting point for this hunt is at The Sandsea in Rabanastre. Read the board (try doing it after escaping from the Imperials, but before heading out of Rabanastre via airship) and get information on the mark. The mark is a Wraith, an imposing-looking character of considerable size and strength. Nonetheless, it is what it is. Head into Lowtown and look for Milha (you'll find him in the northern section of Lowtown, adjacent to the Garamsythe Waterway). Talk to him and learn what he wants you to do, and why.

Having to go to Lowtown to find this guy might suck, but the fact remains that you'd have to go down here anyway. Head to Garamsythe Waterway and run around the middle of the main room until the Wraith appears. Almost immediately, he's going to cast Doom on your characters one by one. This'll make a clock appear, and when it counts down from 10 to 0, your character will die automatically. Luckily, with a three character party, you should get past 7 or 8 before he's slain. His other spells, including Blizzard, Blind and Poison, can be intimidating, but we recommend you ignore EVERYTHING and simply overload on melee attacks. This'll make the battle last the least amount of time, therefore allowing him to give you the least amount of damage.

Once he's slain, head back and talk to Milha to claim your bounty.

    •Commissioned by: Aekom (Bhujerba)

    •Enemy: Nidhogg

•Bounty: 600 Gil, Rose Corsage, Balaclava, Great Serpentskin

It's a convenient thing, really, that this hunt opens up as soon as you enter The Cloudborne for the first time in Bhujerba. That's because, to start this hunt up, you'll need to read the hunt board in that establishment. When you do, you'll find that the creature who commissioned the hunt, Aekom, can be found in the eastern part of Bhujerba, near the mines that run off of the city. Go ahead and talk to him, and accept his offer to pursue the foe named Nidhogg in the tunnels ahead. Doing so will enhance, greatly, your standing with a great many people, and also net you some cool gear, experience, et cetera.

Run into the Lhusu Mines ahead of Aekom. He'll tell you that you can locate Nidhogg where the tunnel in the mines split apart within. Head on in (save your game first, of course) and work your way through the initial part of the mines. If you look at your map, the "split" Aekom was referring to is rather visibly seen on the west side of the mines. You'll run into this foe right after crossing a well-lit bridge-like area full of all sorts of enemies. Speaking of enemies, you'll run into a healthy amount of those here... Slaven, Skull Defenders, Skeletons and Steelings, primarily.

Right before you run into your target, Nidhogg, there's a few things you'll want to do. First of all, make sure everyone is completely healed. Then, cast Protect on each active party member, and briefly run around to regain your lost MP. Then, work your way into the area where Nidhogg is. Immediately have your party cast Blind and Slow (in that order) until both take affect. This will make the battle much, much easier (especially Blind, since Nidhogg is such a ruthless attacker). Then, simply keep an eye on your health, fight off any of Nidhogg's random help (other enemies, that is) and give him a beating. He's weak to fire-based spells, so near the end of the battle, have your party cast one or two full rounds of Fire magick to quickly knock him off. Voila! Your foe is slain! Head back to Aekom outside of the mines to collect your prize.
