    An account recovery contact can help make sure you always have access to your account, even if you forget your Apple ID password or device passcode. Find out how to set up a recovery contact on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.

    Who should be your recovery contact?

    Your recovery contact should be a person that you know and trust, such as a family member or a close friend. You can choose one of your contacts, or if you're in a Family Sharing group, the members of the group will be recommended. You can select up to five recovery contacts for your account. To protect your privacy, Apple doesn't know who your recovery contacts are, so it’s important for you to remember them.

    What does your recovery contact need?

    Your contacts will need an iOS device with iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 or later, or Mac with macOS Monterey or later, and must meet the minimum requirements. Your recovery contacts won't have any access to your account, only the ability to give you a code if you need one.

    •All of your devices must be running iOS 15, iPadOS 15, watchOS 8 or macOS Monterey or later. You may be prompted to update any devices not running the latest OS, or remove any devices that you aren't using.

    •You must be over the age of 13.

    On your iPhone or iPad with iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 or later
