Submit a meter reading. We make it easy to submit a meter reading. Providing an up to date meter reading will ensure you’re receiving accurate bills and paying the right amount for your energy. You don't need to submit any readings if you have a Smart meter or Pay As You Go meter.
Gas meters If British Gas fitted your Smart Gas meter: The screen will probably be off. Press the red button to wake it up. Once it says Credit On you can press the red button again. Each British Gas gas and electricity meter has £5 of Emergency Credit built in for when you run out of gas or electricity and you are unable to top up. To access your Emergency Credit you must have the key or card in the meter. You'll need to pay back the Emergency Credit next time you top up, and any remainder will be put on as credit.
