Jul 19, 2013 · Red arrows show that the wind is gusting. The wind is said to be gusting if the maximum speed is 10 knots or more above the current average speed. The size of each arrow on the map is always based on the average wind speed. Grey arrows indicate that a stations observation hasn't updated and that it's about to be removed from the map. 19 Jul 2013.
Aug 31, 2013 · Preparing for the trip to sail them back to the island they came over from in the morning, I checked XC weather among others. 15mph gust 28mph reducing to 13 and 25 respectively was the wind forecast. I set off reefed in with the idea of later taking the reefs out. Instead of decreasing, the wind increased and INCREASED!

Apr 3, 2024 · Lol. Certainly the important thing is not the “app” but the weather models used. And MetOffice (their own model) and XC (use GFS) are a decent combination - particularly if add Inshore Waters which seems to be a different view from Met Office. But the benefit of an app like Predict Wind is being able to compare 4 or more weather models ...
XC Weather uses the NOAA WW3 model I think and wind predictions can be misleading. I use XC for viewing current conditions only. Wind accuracy can be very very accurate to within 3 hours accuracy using Ugrib though of course the further you look ahead the timing get more inaccurate but the trends stay pretty much the same.
