there was actually a sequel planned but it never happend because of tatmr failing in the box office
There are two main problems with the movie, the first one being magic. It doesn't fit the world of Thomas, it doesn't make sense and it goes against the established realism. The second problem is that the trains do literally nothing in this movie and it focuses too much on the humans.
Thomas and the Magic Railroad is the series first and only featured length movie, excluding the Japanese crossover specials. The film is based off Thomas & Friends and it's spin-off Shining Time Station.
