      • Due to the terrible response to Rasen, Ring 2 was made as a new sequel to Ring. However it was not based on Suzuki's works, thus it ultimately ignores the story of Rasen. Ring 2 takes place four weeks after the first film, directly continuing the story which of course features most of the cast from Ringu reprising their roles.

  2. Ringu 2 was honestly a really good sequel, It had some more scares then Ringu and the dread was still around. The score is just as amazing as in the 1st one, it left me with that dread and unease that the 1st one left me with. Final score 7.7. Ringu Spiral was well not that great.

Even though Spiral generally picks up right where its predecessor left off, with the autopsy of Ryûji Takayama (Hiroyuki Sanada) who we see get killed in the iconic scene where Sadako (Rie Ino'o) crawls out of the tv, the film then goes into entirely new territory than before. We find out both Reiko (Nanako Matsushima) and Yôichi Asakawa (Rikiya Ôt...

Where this movie works is its emotional core. While a father mourning the death of his son is far from an original plot, it ties the film together, and Kôichi Satô gives a fantastic performance as our leading man who is struggling to move past his sons' death. Miki Nakatani is another stand-out here, especially as she shares the screen with Satô. W...

While this movie did indeed fail at the box office, resulting in a course correction by the studio to make more tonally consistent sequels with Ringu, looking back on Spiral as an experiment is captivating. It essentially does the opposite of what its predecessor does. This, of course, explains why so many didn't like it at the time and still don't...

  5. Ringu 2 isnt based on any book. Both continue the story of the first movie, but Ringu 2 plays up the supernatural horror from the first movie while Rasen plays up the drama and leans more towards sci-fi horror than supernatural horror.

  6. Ringu 2 (リング2 Ringu 2?) (1999), directed by Hideo Nakata, is the sequel to the Japanese horror film Ring. Ring was originally a novel written by Koji Suzuki; its sequel, Rasen (aka Spiral), was also adapted into a movie as the Ring movie's sequel.

  7. RINGU 2 is the official sequel to the 1998 film, not Spiral...we don't talk about that one. I have a hot take for this review, so let's get into it!Directed ...
