Oct 26, 2024 · The Brothers Grimm were German folklorists and linguists who are best known for their Grimm’s Fairy Tales (1812–22), which led to the modern study of folklore. Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm together compiled other collections of folk music and folk literature, and Jacob did important work in historical linguistics and philology.
Despite difficult personal problems and meager financial support from 1805 to 1812, the brothers proved themselves to be innovative scholars in the new field of German philology by publishing articles and books on medieval literature.
The Brothers Grimm (German: die Brüder Grimm or die Gebrüder Grimm), Jacob (1785–1863) and Wilhelm (1786–1859), were German academics who together collected and published folklore.

For some years the brothers had been in contact with the romantic poets Clemens Brentano (1778 – 1842) and Achim von Arnim (1781 – 1831), who were preparing a collection of German folk songs.
