Dec 1, 2018 · Kitimat was a boom town complete with much mud, snow and men - it was said at the time that the man to woman ratio at one point was 100:1. Fortunes were made and companies built - two infant companies which went on to great success were Okanagan Helicopters and Pacific Western Airlines.
At the start of 1954, Kitimat was hardly recognizable as a town. From Smeltersite, one drove along a rough road, over Anderson Creek and Kitimat River bridges to the Townsite Camp. Service Centre was a field of stumps, bulldozers and fires.
