    This is not the first time that the Irish equestrian has missed out on a gold medal. During the Summer Olympic Games in Athens in 2004, Cian became a national hero after his gold medal turn on Waterford Crystal. The glory was short-lived though after jumping to victory the horse failed a drugs test, testing positive for a prohibited drug.

    The award-winning horse failed the test at the games and then a 'B' urine sample was stolen from a lab in Newmarket in October. The sportsman had claimed that the drugs used, fluphenazine and guanabenz, were given to the horse which was undergoing hydrotherapy to treat a fetlock injury a month prior to the games.
