  5. The Brenner Base Tunnel is currently being constructed between Innsbruck and the town of Franzensfeste in South Tirol/Alto Adige, Italy. It is planned to open in 2026 and will be the longest railway tunnel in the world. Including the existing southern diversion around Innsbruck it will run for a total of 64 kilometres.
