Lancashire has vast areas of stunning scenery, from Arnside and Silverdale AONB to the Pennines and the Forest of Bowland. Within this region The Trough of Bowland is an iconic stretch of countryside and Beacon Fell Country Park gives views on a clear day as far as Morecambe Bay.
- Lancaster. Although just a little city and easy to traverse on foot, Lancaster’s historic ties to the British throne (Queen Elizabeth II is the Duke of Lancaster) makes it an exciting place to explore.
- Blackpool. The coastal town of Blackpool is pretty much the model for an English seaside resort and is one of the country’s most beloved domestic holiday destinations.
- Garstang. An adorable market town, Garstang was mentioned in the 11th-century Domesday book and has a weekly market that has been running since 1310. Just west of the Forest of Bowland, this is prime walking country.
- Lytham St Annes. A conurbation of two coastal towns a few miles down the coast from Blackpool, Lytham St Annes is an ideal antidote to its glitzier neighbour.
Lancashire: The Best Things To See And Do. Lancashire is an ancient county to the west of its arch rival, Yorkshire. This rivalry dates back from the Wars Of the Roses fought in the 1400s between the House of York (symbol: a white rose) and the House of Lancaster (symbol: a red rose).
