Aug 1, 2024 · Arenal Volcano National Park is one of the most most visited national parks in Costa Rica with several hiking trails and view points, making it a great outdoor activity from La Fortuna. It’s definitely a must do when you are in La Fortuna or the surrounding areas. Below is our guide to Arenal Volcano National Park to help you plan your trip.
- Arenal Volcano Background. Let’s start off with a quick background of the Arenal Volcano. For hundreds of years, Arenal volcano was thought to be dormant (and even extinct).
- How to Get There. In general, the easiest way to get around Costa Rica will be by having your own rental car. This way you can go at your own pace, head to the attractions you want to on your schedule, and not need to worry about transportation in general.
- Where to Stay in La Fortuna. In and around the town of La Fortuna there are plenty of hotel options to choose from. Most of the resorts are not located within the town itself, but rather on the outskirts of town surrounding the volcano.
- Tickets, Entrance Fee & Hours. Arenal Volcano National Park Hours: the park is open from 8:00AM – 4:00PM, 7 days a week. However, the last entrance of the day is at 2:30PM.
- Arenal Volcano National Park. The Arenal Volcano National Park spans across almost 30,000 acres of rainforest and is a great place to see the volcano up close from various trails.
- La Fortuna Waterfall. Swim, take pictures and picnic at the bottom of this 200 ft mind-blowing waterfall. Get there by walking or horseback riding. The hike to the waterfall is a great opportunity to spot wildlife including monkeys, toucans and sloths.
- Hanging Bridge Tours. Discover the rainforest from the sky and let an expert guide point out wildlife along the way. Don’t forget to bring your camera, not only for the amazing views of the rainforest, but to capture the hundreds of species of birds flying above the trees.
