Personally, I think it would be best if Anya can't do mind reading anymore since it might make their family dynamic weird/awkward later. Plus, they can start over as a normal family at the end of it all without being cautious around her.
By asking a specific question, she would force the person to bring the desired piece of information to the top of their minds, where Kaitlyn could read it easily. We haven't received a detailed explanation about how Anya's power works, but it seems to be very similar.
