If you get an alert that says Invalid SIM or No SIM Card installed, follow these steps.

1.Make sure that you have an active plan with your wireless carrier.

    2.Restart your iPhone or iPad.

3.Check for a carrier settings update. Go to Settings > General > About. If an update is available, you'll see a prompt to select OK or Update.

4.If your device has an eSIM, contact your carrier.

5.If your device has a physical SIM card, remove your iPhone SIM card or iPad SIM card from the SIM card tray and then put the SIM card back. Make sure that the SIM tray closes completely and isn’t loose. If you use a SIM tray from a different model iPhone, iPad, or from another phone manufacturer, it might not fit properly.

    • Insert SIM in Another iPhone. A good way to crosscheck if the SIM failure error is showing due to SIM or some iPhone setting is to insert the SIM card in another iPhone.
    • Check if Carrier Plan Has Expired. Check your mobile carrier’s app or web page with your subscription account to check if your plan is still valid. You can call your carrier to ensure your plan has not expired.
    • SIM/eSIM Is Locked. For security, every SIM card has a specific PIN (Personal Identification Number) to lock it. This is done to avoid unauthorized access to your SIM and using to make calls and send messages.
    • Is iPhone Locked to a Carrier. You can buy iPhones directly from the carrier along with a mobile service plan. That means your iPhone can only be used with that particular mobile carrier’s SIM card or eSIM.
    • Restart iPhone. Press and hold the side button and volume up button for a few seconds. This will bring you to the power options screen. The best first troubleshooting step when you have glitches on your phone is usually to restart it to see if the issue gets fixed.
    • Check For an Active Cell Plan. Open the Settings app. If you don't have an active cellular plan, you won't be able to make calls or use apps like WhatsApp or Viber.
    • Check For Carrier Settings Update. Connect your phone to Wi-Fi. If you're having issues with cellular-related activities on your phone and keep getting a SIM failure error, first connect your phone to Wi-Fi if it isn't already.
    • Reinsert SIM Card. Open the SIM tray. If you have a physical SIM, removing the SIM card and putting it back in can help refresh any SIM failure errors.

  4. Reinsert the tray and retest. Try the SIM from a friend or family member with the same cellular carrier. If it works, replace your SIM card. You can request one from your service provider, or visit one of their physical locations. As a workaround, use your phone’s eSIM instead.
