They are like reflections in a mirror, bottom to bottom. Number 5's engine number is written upside down, so that it can be read correctly.

In mirror formations, one Thunderbird must be inverted, and it is always number 5. In fact, the number 5 on this aircraft is painted upside-down, and thus appears right-side-up for much of the routine.
You may have noticed the upside down 5 on our lead solo jet but this modification to the traditional 5 wasn't added until 1986. Members of the maintenance team convinced leadership that the 5 on the jet should be inverted to match the upside down maneuvers flown by our lead solo pilot.
