Lookout Mountain is a mountain ridge located at the northwest corner of the U.S. state of Georgia, the northeast corner of Alabama, and along the southeastern Tennessee state line in Chattanooga. Lookout Mountain was the scene of the 18th-century "Last Battle of the Cherokees" in this area during the Nickajack Expedition.

Located at the southernmost end of the Cumberland Plateau, you’ll find Lookout Mountain and Sand Mountain, which came to exist 290 to 250 million years ago when the North American and African plates collided, causing the rock strata—the layer of sedimentary rock or soil formed at the Earth’s surface—to resemble a bunched rug.
- It was originally called Delta. Founded as a farming community, Delta was located in what was known as Spencer Township. In 1870, it was annexed by the city of Cincinnati.
- New neighbor, new name. In 1873 the Cincinnati Observatory was moved from Mt. Adams, where it had been since 1843, and placed in Delta. The neighborhood's name was soon changed to Mount Lookout.
- George Washington did NOT survey the area. It has been reported that George Washington surveyed the area that is now Mt. Lookout, but this is erroneous.
- A Frenchman developed most of the square. In 1901, a Frenchman named Frank Boesch bought four acres of land in the neighborhood and proceeded to develop most of the western side of the square.
