Season 3B, Episode 8: Space. Synopsis: Mackenzie, Jack and Rusty are playing as astronauts on a mission to Mars. But during their journey, Mackenzie keeps going missing and no one knows why, not even Mackenzie! Air Date: June 20, 2022, on ABC Kids and ABC iView. ---.
The emphasis on “a black hole is a Sun that got small” is because when you’re coming out of a slide, you go from pure darkness to suddenly seeing the light at the end of the hole, so when Jack explained it like that, it set off Mackenzie’s memory of said event.

Mackenzie, Jack, and Rusty head to the wooden boat to play a game about space as they decide who each will be. Rusty is given the role as captain and Jack is the navigator/"dude-a-tron" (the computer of the ship). Mackenzie asks what he would be and Jack assigns him the role of Chief Scientist, the person who "fixes stuff" and "figures everything out." While Rusty and Jack try to figure out where they want to go and if aliens exist in either location, those being Mars or a black hole, Mackenzie gets curious about the latter. Jack tells the border collie that a black hole, based on his knowledge, is a hole that gets small and that it's unknown what lies inside it. Mackenzie then ponders about the black hole for a moment, while also quite possibly reflecting on a traumatic memory.
As the trio pretend to fly up to space, Mackenzie interrupts the game by pretending that the "ship" hit a meteor, to which Jack (or "dude-a-tron" in this case) corrects him that they're called asteroids. When Mackenzie gets out of the boat to check the "boosters," Rusty asks "dude-a-tron" if any more asteroids/meteors around, to which the latter replies that there aren't. However, Mackenzie interrupts the game again by pretending that he got hit by an asteroid and falls down the hill, despite Jack/dude-a-tron saying no more asteroids were present. After finding out that Mackenzie's no longer tied to the yarn/tether, Rusty leaps out of the boat to save him, only to find out that Mackenzie's hiding behind a tree and sitting quietly with a worried expression. As Rusty retrieves him and head back to the ship, they pretend to land on Mars, with Mackenzie still looking upset.
Jack then asks Mackenzie how dude-a-tron didn't see the asteroid, to which Mackenzie replies that the first asteroid must've damaged dude-a-tron. Jack decides to accept that answer, but then asks how the tether unhooked despite its strength; Mackenzie ignores the question, then proceeds to finish whatever task he was doing. As the trio are about to start up the ship again, Mackenzie quietly leaves without a sound, and Rusty notices. As Rusty and Jack find him, Mackenzie fabricates a scenario in which they left him behind. Confused, Rusty and Jack refute it saying they didn't, only for Mackenzie to say they intentionally left him behind. Jack then realizes that Mackenzie's tether didn't break, but rather the border collie unhooked it himself; Mackenzie then confirms it with reluctance. He then tells the duo that he wants to pretend that he's left behind and all alone, but when they ask why, he genuinely doesn't know and says so. They then say that they can't pretend to do that since they need a Chief Scientist to get to Mars and put them in hyper sleep, to which Mackenzie reluctantly agrees and rejoins them.
As Mackenzie orders dude-a-tron to put the crew into hyper sleep, the latter does what he's told to do and everyone pretends to sleep. As Mackenzie reopens his eyes, he gets up and sabotages the game once again, changing the route to the black hole. As dude-a-tron alerts the crew that the hyper sleep was interrupted, Rusty and Jack get "confused" and realize Mackenzie has run off again. Mackenzie is then seen staring into the tunnel with the bright light, only for Rusty and Jack to catch up and try to stop him from entering. Mackenzie then states that he has to and wants to go in since he's the Chief Scientist and restates the purpose of his role. Unable to change his mind, Rusty suggests that he and Jack go in with Mackenzie, only for the latter to want to go in alone and that they should go back to Mars. Rusty agrees to allow Mackenzie to pretend whatever he wants, and tells Jack to let him go. As Mackenzie enters the tunnel, or black hole in this case, he unlocks a traumatic memory in which he thinks his mom left him behind at a playground.
When Rusty and Jack go back to the ship, dude-a-tron asks where Mackenzie is, only for Rusty to say that he's gone. Dude-a-tron asks if they still want to leave without him, while Rusty laments the choice he made to let Mackenzie go. Meanwhile during the flashback, baby Mackenzie is confronted by Calypso who then explains that his mom did not leave him behind, but rather just got mixed up in the slide. Mackenzie's mom is seen waving and yelling to Mackenzie and the latter is able to lighten up. Calypso then tells Mackenzie that he "knows what's here now," and he doesn't "need to keep coming back to this place," to which Mackenzie agrees. Calypso then tells Mackenzie to leave and get out, only for the flashback to fade back to reality as Bluey, Indy, and Chloe, all dressed up as aliens, try and drag Mackenzie further away from the black hole. Suddenly, Rusty comes to Mackenzie's rescue and Jack pulls them out back to the other side. As they head back to the ship once more, Jack requests dude-a-tron to do a crew check, to which the latter does. As both Rusty and Jack confirm that they're here, Mackenzie hesitates and stares into the black hole from afar, contemplating about his memory and what Calypso had told him. He then confirms that he's present and rejoins the group for real this time.

•Jack mentions that what hit their ship is not a meteor, but an asteroid, the reason being that since they were already in space, space debris that hits them is an asteroid, while something falling onto a planet/moon is a meteor.
•Bluey dancing at the end was replaced by yarn.
•It is implied that Mackenzie has post-traumatic-stress-disorder as a result of an incident of abandonment when he was younger.
•Although this episode premiered in 2022, it was produced in 2021 according to the end credits.
•Animation error: Through the episode, Mackenzie’s feet patterns are shown in wrong directions. His feet normally show as lining up with the way he is facing (as an example, if Mackenzie is looking to the audiences right, the black/white divide on his legs will go from the bottom left to the top right). In a few shots, his legs show different patterns to one another.
•On the episode's official website page, the character section shows Bluey, Indy, and Chloe dressed as aliens.

Mackenzie does return to the ship but instead of going to Mars, he wants to visit a black hole instead. He enters the dark tunnel and when he emerges on the other side, he’s been transported back to his childhood as a puppy.
Mackenzie Border Collie [1] is a secondary character that has appeared in multiple episodes of Bluey. A student of Calypso 's class, Mackenzie is one of Bluey, Jack and Rusty 's close friends.
