Apr 12, 2022 · The city isn’t for everyone, which is why the suburbs may be better suited for you. Here are some pros of suburban living. Community-Oriented. The suburbs may offer a greater sense of community than the city. If you want to get to know your neighbors better, you may have an easier time doing so in an actual neighborhood.
- Easy to get around. This is huge and seldom discussed. It’s not easy trudging around in a city with two young kids. It’s one thing to stroll to the grocery store when single, it’s another doing it when feeding a family of 4.
- Bigger houses. We moved to the burbs primarily for a larger house, bigger rooms and a yard. Could we make do in an apartment? Sure, we could and there would no doubt be advantages, but having some breathing room and a yard for kids is fantastic.
- Other kids around. We have several families on our street with kids. They come over and our kids go to their houses. There’s always someone around to play with.
- Fun abounds. Our oldest love biking and can bike on his own on the street. This isn’t possible in a city or on a busy road. We have 3 parks within walking distance.

- More bang for your buck. Moving to a suburb won’t necessarily be cheap, per se. In fact, many American suburbs are notoriously expensive (think: Weston, Massachusetts, Los Altos Hills, California and Bronxville, New York).
- More peace and quiet. No doubt about it: city life is loud. From the honking cars and blaring sirens to the general hustle and bustle of everyday urban life, you won’t get much peace and quiet living in a city.
- More highly rated school options. Many suburbs are home to top-rated public and private schools. In fact, these highly rated school districts are one of the main draws for families.
