The Deputy is an American Western television series starring Henry Fonda and Allen Case that aired on NBC from 1959 to 1961. Fonda portrayed Chief Marshal Simon Fry of the Arizona Territory and Case played Deputy Clay McCord, a storekeeper who tried to avoid using a gun.
May 16, 2017 · While the series did not wind up its last episode with anything that today would pass for a finale, at least not literally, it did offer a symbolically satisfying end to the slow education and eventual graduation of Clay McCord from private citizen and storekeeper to permanent Deputy Marshal.
With Henry Fonda, Allen Case, Read Morgan, Wallace Ford. Clay McCord is who often helped Chief Marshal Simon Fry in 1880's Arizona territory. McCord eventually becomes Fry's Chief Deputy assigned to Silver City. Fry and McCord are assisted by Sergeant Hapgood Tasker Army cavalry Sergeant.

Apr 26, 2011 · The idea was that Henry Fonda, as Chief Marshal Simon Fry, would be starring in a Western series. His credit is by far the biggest, but the name of the show, after all, is The Deputy. The deputy, when he chose to wear the badge officially, was actor Allen Case as Clay McCord.
Created by Norman Lear and Roland Kibbee, “The Deputy” was on opposite the older-skewing “Lawrence Welk” on ABC while CBS pitted “Brenner”—a failure—then “Mr. Lucky” and finally “Checkmate” against the Fonda/Case series.

However, he was persuaded to be the Deputy to help keep order and assist the ageing deputy Herk Lamson (Wallace Ford) when Chief Marshal Simon Fry is out of town, which was obviously weeks on end.
