—Thyra to Tidman when he was bullying her

Thyra Ragnarsdottir was a main character in both The Saxon Stories novel series and The Last Kingdom television series. Thyra was the daughter of Earl Ragnar and the wife of Beocca.

    The Saxon Stories

In "The Last Kingdom", one day, Sven kidnaps Ragnar's daughter, Thyra, and removes part of her clothing in an effort to sexually assault her. Uhtred charges Sven from hiding, taking Sven's sword and attacking him with it. Uhtred, Rorik, and Thyra escape back to Ragnar's hall. Ragnar, offended and deeply angry, banishes Kjartan from his service, and crushes one of Sven's eyes with the hilt of his sword - adding darkly that he would have crushed both, had Sven stripped Thyra completely naked. Uhtred enjoys life with the Danes but flees after Kjartan kills Ragnar in revenge, burning down his hall with his former lord inside after kidnapping Thyra. Uhtred then joins King Alfred in Wessex. After a battle with the Danes he again meets Ragnar the Younger and tells him how his father died and that Thyra is still alive. They part friends, swearing that one day they will band together to take revenge on Kjartan and rescue Thyra. In "The Lords of the North", Uhtred's plan to take Dunholm is to once again become a sceadugengan, a shadow-walker. In the darkness, he along with eleven of his best men climb the hill upon which Dunholm sits and sneak into the fort through a gate used to fetch well water. Although they are discovered, they are assisted by Thyra. She rouses Kjartan's hounds and turns them on their masters, allowing Uhtred and his men to open the gate for Ragnar with the main forces of Guthred's army to enter the stronghold. Kjartan's men are defeated in a Shield Wall, Sven is defeated by Finan, and then savaged to death by the hounds at Thyra's behest, and Kjartan himself is killed in single combat by Ragnar, who refuses to allow him to die with a sword in his hand, denying his entry into Valhalla. • Father Beocca. Father Beocca's death is easily the saddest moment in the entire series. Beocca is a father to Uhtred in many ways, and the show feels a bit empty without his steady presence.
    • Osferth. Osferth's death is number two in this ranking because of the way he dies and how likable he is. Osferth is still young when he dies, and it feels like his story is cut short when he dies.
    • Thyra. Thyra, Uhtred's adoptive sister and Father Beocca's wife, also dies a profoundly heartbreaking death. After being trapped beneath the floorboards of her burning house, Thyra chooses to take her own life rather than suffer through suffocation or burning alive.
    • Ragnar Ragnarsson. Ragnar Ragnarsson, or Ragnar the Younger, is Uhtred's adoptive brother, and his Last Kingdom death at the hands of the treacherous Aethelwold is one of the hardest scenes to watch in the entire series.

Gorm died around 963 CE and while Saxo records in Gesta Danorum that Thyra died after her husband, it is typically believed that Thyra died before Gorm due to the Jelling 1 stone which he raised to commemorate her.
