Jun 10, 2020 · New Kids on the Block was the hit boy band of the '80s and '90s. The group was founded by producer Maurice Starr after he hosted a talent search in Boston. Starr's first recruit was 14-year-old Donnie Wahlberg, who then recruited his friends and his younger brother Mark (via People).
Mark Wahlberg left the group after only a few months, a fair while before they changed names from Nynuk to New Kids On The Block at the behest of Columbia Records. It's also worth noting that Mark Wahlberg wouldn't perform as Marky Mark until the 1990s, and he didn't use the name when with Nynuk.
