Sometime after Marco had left to participate in the Raid on Onigashima, the Marines came led by Ratel to seize Whitebeards treasure. However, Whitebeard's self-proclaimed son Edward Weevil fought them to protect Sphinx, forcing them to call in Admiral Ryukugyu , who defeated and captured Weevil.

Nekomamushi and the Guardians reach Whitebeard's home island. Nekomamushi finds Marco in a hidden village where he works as a doctor. During the meeting, Marco tells Nekomamushi about Whitebeard's childhood and the reason he cannot leave the island.
