    • Trial and error. Disney had tried and failed four times to adapt Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen but couldn’t make the character fit – until Pixar head honcho John Lasseter suggested a little bit of departure from the source might be advisable.
    • It looks magnificent – and is based on real life. The stunning visuals use computer-generated imagery unsurprisingly but also feature hand-drawn imagination; there’s a further nod to Disney’s past with the use of the ultra-widescreen CinemaScope.
    • Robert Lopez. The songs in Frozen are funny, catchy, heartwarming and inspiring – like the best tunes from a Broadway show. Which is no surprise, since songwriter Robert Lopez (who co-wrote the Frozen singsongs with wife Kristen) co-created musical hits Avenue Q and The Book of Mormon.
    • Arrested Development references. The finest children’s films have something for the parents to enjoy at the same time. Frozen takes it a notch further, as this gifset shows, and aims squarely at the cult comedy fans in the audience.
