"Sleeping Beauty" (French: La Belle au bois dormant, or The Beauty Sleeping in the Wood [1] [a]; German: Dornröschen, or Little Briar Rose), also titled in English as The Sleeping Beauty in the Woods, is a fairy tale about a princess cursed by an evil fairy to sleep for a hundred years before being awakened by a handsome prince.
The original scenario was by Ivan Vsevolozhsky after Perrault's La belle au bois dormant, or The Beauty Sleeping in the Forest; the first choreographer was Marius Petipa.
Translations of the verse morals are from Perrault's Fairy Tales, translated by S. R. Littlewood (London: Herbert and Daniel, 1912). The title of this tale in French is "La belle au bois dormant." Aarne-Thompson type 410.
