    • Blame it on his aunt. When Ross Edwards was 13 his Aunt took him to his first-ever concert, played by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra with pianist Gordon Watson as the soloist.
    • Ross finds his mentor. At 19, feeling confused and overwhelmed, Ross made a “cold call” to his musical hero, the composer Richard Meale, who took his call.
    • The well runs dry. In the 1970s, Ross went through a creative dry spell, confused as to what musical direction to take. He not only stopped writing music altogether, but he even stopped listening to it.
    • He shocked the modernists. In 1982, Ross’ Piano Concerto no 1 marked a turning point in his career. Its beautiful, harmonious music rejected the avant-garde styles that were prevalent at the time.
