Jan 13, 2015 · So we return to Zechariah, the son of Jehoiada (זְכַרְיָה בֶּן יְהוֹיָדָע), whose death was described in 2 Chr. 24:20-22. In the LXX, his father’s name is written (in the genitive) as Ιωδαε (2 Chr. 24:20). But, in Matt. 23:35, the father of Zechariah is written as Βαραχίου.

Zacharias, son of Barachias - It is not certainly known who this was. Some have thought that it was the Zecharias whose death is recorded in 2 Chronicles 24:20-21. He is there called the son of Jehoiada; but it is known that it was common among the Jews to have two names, as Matthew is called Levi; Lebbeus, Thaddeus; and Simon, Cephas.
Oct 10, 2024 · Concerning the son of Berechiah, the OT reports very little of his life. In the prolog of Book of Zechariah he is called "son of Berechiah" but in the Book of Ezra (5:1) he is called "son of Iddo," who may have been his grandfather.
That Zacharias was, however, the son of Jehoiada; and the only "Zechariah the son of Barachias" in the Old Testament, is the minor prophet whose writings occupy the last place but one among the prophetic books of the Old Testament.
The name given for the father of a man named Zechariah in 2 Chronicles chapter 24 is Jehoiada. Jesus might possibly be referring to the prophet mentioned in Zechariah 1:1. Or, the Zechariah of 2 Chronicles was the descendant of a man named Barachiah, not necessarily his immediate son.
