One of them, Mother Geneviève of St Teresa, was still living. When Therese entered the second wing, containing the cells and sickrooms in which she was to live and die, which had been standing only ten years, "What she found was a community of very aged nuns, some odd and cranky, some sick and troubled, some lukewarm and complacent.
On December 5, 1891, Mother Genevieve of St. Teresa, the saintly foundress of the Lisieux Carmel, died. Therese called her "a saint . . . . who was made holy by the practice of the hidden virtues, the ordinary virtues."
On Dec. 5, 1891, Mother Genevieve of St. Teresa, foundress of the Carmelite convent of Lisieux, died. Regarding Mother Genevieve, St. Therese wrote, “what a joy it was to have lived for some years with a soul whose holiness was not inimitable, but lay in the practice of simple and hidden virtues.
The convent was a tapestry woven from threads of history, established by two nuns from the Poitiers Carmel back in 1838. Among its walls moved figures from a past era, including Mother Geneviève of St Teresa, a living bridge to the origins of this sacred house.
