He served in British Naval Intelligence during World War II, and subsequently enjoyed a fairly lengthy and successful tenure in the British film industry, scripting and directing a number of movies.
William Fairchild was a British writer of novels, short stories and plays. Also, he was a film director, mostly known for "John and Julie" (1955), "The Extra Day" (1956) and "Star!" (1968).
The Pay-Off. Retitled version of the William Fairchild play previously presented under the titles DEATH ON DEMAND (qv) and MURDER BY NUMBERS. Brian Wilde had played the same role in the original 1972 tour.
