Thyra Ragnarsdottir was a main character in both The Saxon Stories novel series and The Last Kingdom television series. Thyra was the daughter of Earl Ragnar and the wife of Beocca.
Although they are discovered, they are assisted by Ragnar's sister Thyra, who has been held by Sven and Kjartan since the events of The Last Kingdom. Thyra turns Kjartan's own hounds against their masters, allowing Uhtred and his men to open the gate for Ragnar and Guthred's army to enter the stronghold and beat Kjartan's men.

The Saxon Stories (also known as Saxon Tales/Saxon Chronicles in the US and The Warrior Chronicles and most recently as The Last Kingdom series) is a historical novel series written by Bernard Cornwell about the birth of England in the ninth and tenth centuries. The series consists of 13 novels.
Uhtred befriends Ragnar's youngest son, Rorik, and has many clashes with one boy in particular, Sven, son of Kjartan, one of Ragnar's shipmasters. One day, Sven kidnaps Ragnar's daughter, Thyra, and removes part of her clothing in an effort to sexually assault her.

That entire arc surrounding the events concerning Thyra was a political statement made by the writers of the show. They dragged in their political views about Brexit and let that guide their writing of her storyline as an "immigrant" Dane living in a Saxon world.
