Sergio Espino Verdin was a commander in the Mexican Federal Judicial Police, the head of the force in Guadalajara and a member of the DFS and later the CISEN. Verdin received training from the CIA, and used his knowledge on torturing DEA agent Enrique Camarena Salazar for information, resulting in the latter's death.

Sergio Espino Verdin was arrested by Federal Judicial Police at his mother's bday party in the city of Durango in May 1986. He was transferred to Mexico City and interrogated there by Commander Florentino Ventura (omitted from the series and I have no idea why he arrested Rafa Don Neto and El Azul was about to pinch Miguel in 1987).
