May 13, 2022 · Raymond Huggins married, in 1952, Sheila Vaughan, a civil servant and a former Wren. She predeceased him and he is survived by their son and three daughters. Raymond Huggins, born March 22 1928, died May 13 2022. His career was ‘90 per cent fun, 10 per cent character-building’.
Following a long and successful career of over 34 years, Ray Huggins retired from the Army in 1980, to become the Deputy Administrator at Blenheim Palace, a role for which he was ideally suited. He worked there for 13 years, while his wife, Sheila, was the Blenheim Gardens’ Secretary.
In 1952 he married Sheila Vaughan and she was to be his ‘strength and foundation’ for almost 60 years. They were a happy family with three daughters and a son. It is probably not well known that Ray never drove a car so Sheila was also his driver.
