Leslie James Cole (11 August 1910 – 1976) was a British artist and teacher. He served as a war artist from 1942 to 1946 during which time he recorded events in several theatres of war and also the aftermath of the liberation of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. [1]

Leslie Cole was born in Swindon on August 11, 1910, and was to become best known as an official artist of the Second World War – and one of the first Allies to witness the full horror of Nazi death camps after liberation.
From 1946 until his early death in 1976, Leslie Cole taught at Brighton College of Art (later Polytechnic) and the Central School of Arts and Crafts, London. At the former he worked closely for many years with John Vernon Lord teaching drawing to graphic design and illustration students.

Leslie Cole was born in Swindon; he studied at Swindon Art School and the Royal College of Art, London. In 1942 he was appointed an official war artist and sent to Malta. After the war he taught at Central School of Arts and Crafts and Brighton School of Art.
