Jul 24, 2019 · Dr. Joseph Frank Sambrook, a preeminent and internationally known molecular biologist involved in pioneering molecular cloning, died June 14 at 80. Sambrook was recruited to UT Southwestern in the 1980s as Chairman of Biochemistry and later served as Director of the Eugene McDermott Center for Human Growth and Development.
Joseph Sambrook is best known for his research of viruses and the molecular biology of normal and cancerous cells. He received his B.Sc. from the University of Liverpool in 1962 and Ph.D. from the Australian National University in 1966.
Footnote 44 Watson persuaded Joe Sambrook, a talented and combative British tumour virologist at the lab, to join the effort. Although Sambrook never served as a formal instructor for the summer course, he was a leading research scientist at CSHL and a superb writer.
