Duke Lavery is a fictional character from General Hospital, an American soap opera on the ABC network, primarily portrayed by Ian Buchanan. The role was created by executive producer Gloria Monty and co-head writer Norma Monty.
After studying acting in New York at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and privately with Marcia Haufrecht, [4] Buchanan's first major daytime role came in 1986, when he joined the cast of General Hospital in the role of Duke Lavery, whom he portrayed until 1989.

Duke Lavery was a fictional character on the popular ABC soap opera General Hospital.
The character was created and originated in 1986 by actor Ian Buchanan. Buchanan played the role of Duke from 1986 until 1989. In late 1989, an actor named Deke Anderson played the role of Duke, who was bandaged after plastic surgery, however, Anderson's face was not shown, although he did speak. Greg Beecroft then took over the role in early 1990, however, the character was killed off a few months later in March 1990. In August 2012, however, Ian Buchanan returned, appearing to be Duke, alive.
It was a shock to most viewers since the media did not report it, and it was not included in spoilers of the show. It was revealed that Greg Beecroft's character was not Duke after all, but an imposter.
In November 2012, it was revealed that the man dressed as Duke Lavery since August is actually Cesar Faison, but Faison is actually holding the real Duke captive. Now, the real Duke Lavery is free and in Port Charles.
Duke is born in Scotland to a 17-year-old Mary Fitzhugh. Duke is the product of Mary's affair with mobster Angus McKay and she later marries into the Lavery family to make sure her baby has a name.
Anna Devane is the love of Duke‘s life. He has one son, Dr. Griffin Munro.
