Feb 7, 2022 · Richard J. Diehl, President/CEO of Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Service, in Columbus, died Monday, January 24, 2022, at the age of 75. As a youngster growing up in Youngstown, Ohio, Richard lived above the family business established by his father, Diehl Funeral Home on Belmont Avenue, and graduated from The Rayen (High) School in the class of 1964.
It was operated for three generations by the Whittaker family until 1969, when it was purchased by the Diehl family, who had owned and operated a funeral home in Youngstown, Ohio. The firm was owned and managed by Richard J. Diehl, who in 1977 built the new facility on the site of the original Whittaker establishment; it was at this time that the firm’s name was changed to “Diehl-Whittaker”.
