Popeye or Popeye the Sailor is a comic book series based upon Popeye and the rest of the Thimble Theatre cast, spun off from Four Color ' s early Popeye editions. Begun in 1948 with story and art by Bud Sagendorf, formerly the assistant of Popeye creator E. C. Segar, the series lasted for 171 issues until 1984.
