Dwight Ellison is Trudy Monk's father and Molly Evans's grandfather. A successful television producer in Los Angeles, Dwight doted on his only child, and was very proud of her for winning scholarships to an exclusive private school, and to UC Berkeley.
Adrian Monk. (married at time of death) Trudy Anne Ellison Monk is Adrian's beloved deceased wife, played by Stellina Rusich in the first two seasons and Melora Hardin after the third season. In the season five episode "Mr. Monk and the Class Reunion", a younger Trudy is portrayed in a flashback by Lindy Newton.
Trudy's father, a game show producer, invites Monk to Hollywood to determine if the host is helping a contestant cheat. Monk has to become a contestant himself in order to clinch the case, as well as to confirm his suspicions about the death of the host's assistant.
Monk meets Trudy's daughter, Molly Evans, who bears a striking resemblance to Trudy and, much like her mother, is a writer, working as a film critic for a local paper. Monk considers retiring from detective work to spend time with Molly, but Molly encourages him to use his gift to continue helping other people.
