  5. May 18, 2020 · Walt Disney bought the rights to Savage Sam, Fred Gipson’s followup to Old Yeller before the book was ever published. You’d think having the book’s author, the same screenwriter (William Tunberg, with assistance from Gipson), almost the entire cast, and a whole lot of experience writing Westerns, they’d be able to pull together something decent.
