John Preston (born 1953) is an English journalist and novelist. About 1618, he was appointed dean and catechist of Queen’s College. He preached a series of sermons there that would later be the foundation of his body of divinity. These sermons became so popular that anyone who was not a faculty member or a student of the college was forbidden to attend.
John Preston is a former Arts Editor of the Evening Standard and the Sunday Telegraph. For ten years he was the Sunday Telegraph's television critic and one of its chief feature writers.
The Dig is a historical novel by John Preston, published in May 2007, set in the context of the 1939 Anglo-Saxon ship burial excavation at Sutton Hoo, Suffolk, England. The dust jacket describes it as "a brilliantly realized account of the most famous archaeological dig in Britain in modern times".
