John McCrae (born November 30, 1872, Guelph, Ontario, Canada—died January 28, 1918, Wimereux, France) is best known for his short poem “ In Flanders Fields ” (1915). He wrote it while serving as a medical officer during World War I. The poem is often considered to be one of the most famous war poems ever written.
