    Big Bob Carter is one of the main protagonists of the remake. For more information on Big Bob’s counterpart in the original film, see Big Bob Carter (original). Big Bob is the father of Lynn Carter, Bobby Carter Jr., and Brenda Carter, Ethel Carter’s husband, and Doug Bukowski’s father-in-law, and an ex-cop. He is portrayed by Russ Grieve.

    Biography

    Big Bob has recently retired from being a detective, and plans to open a security firm. He and his family go on a road trip through the desert, mainly due to Bob’s stubbornness and desire to control the trip.

    After the trailer crashes, Bob decides to go out and look for help. He and Doug go in separate directions, and Bob goes to Jeb’s gas station, which the family had stopped at earlier. Bob searches the gas station but finds no one there; he then discovers Jeb in the outhouse, holding a shotgun to his head. Bob orders Jeb to drop the gun, but Jeb shoots himself in the head.

    Bob then hears Papa Jupiter, who is hiding somewhere near the gas station, taunting him by repeatedly saying “Daddy.” Bob fires his gun wildly into the darkness and breaks into Jeb’s car, only to discover Papa Jupiter in the back seat, who knocks Bob unconscious and carries him into the mines.

    The Hill People strip Bob of his weapons and crucify him nearby the trailer. The Hill people then set Bob ablaze, and his family rushes to rescue him, leaving the trailer defenseless. Doug manages to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, but Bob quickly dies of his severe burn wounds.

    Bob is depicted in a much more sympathetic light than in the original film, being far less bigoted and cruel than the Big Bob of the original.
